The extradition hearing of convicted paedophile Iain Wares resumes on Tuesday in the Simonstown Magistrates Court.

Proceedings were postponed two weeks ago after the senior prosecutor fell ill.

Wares is wanted in the United Kingdom (UK) on 90 charges of sexual and physical abuse, allegedly committed more than 50 years ago while he was a teacher in Scotland.

More than 100 men accuse him of abuse at Edinburgh Academy and Fettes College during the 1960s and 1970s.

A women’s and children’s rights group has criticised the delays in the case against Wares.

Women and Men Against Child Abuse said repeated postponements have disappointed some UK victims who travelled to South Africa to follow proceedings.

Wares has already been convicted in South Africa for indecently assaulting a former pupil at Rondebosch Boys’ Primary School.

The 86-year-old denied knowing the complainant and claimed he could not have committed the offence.

However, the court found him guilty, with sentencing set for 13 May 2026.
