JOHANNESBURG - Many community members are gathered outside the Protea Glen Magistrate's Court calling for justice for the four-year-old girl whose parents are charged with her rape, murder and child abuse.

The parents are appearing in court for a bail application after they were arrested last week.

On Wednesday, community members discovered the girl beaten and bleeding in her home in Eldorado Park, Soweto, and she was then hospitalised.

On Friday, she succumbed to her injuries and died, while her mother was arrested for defeating the ends of justice.

Scores of community members holding placards with pictures of a little girl with ponytails are gathered outside the court waiting for the matter to be called.

Some of the signs read "Stop abusing children" and "Save little lives".

Police are monitoring the situation outside the court.

Community activist, Cheryl Pillay, said they wanted to see the wheels of justice turning.

"No bail. Definitely no bail. We cannot have bail for any offenders against children, we really cannot have it."

Members from the community safety portfolio committee also.
