JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng portfolio committee on community safety said it has had enough of engaging on solutions to violence and instead wants to act now against criminals.
Members of the committee, including chairperson, Bandile Masuku, were at the Protea Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for the case of a four-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and killed by her father.
The child’s mother was also arrested for failing to report sexual assault against the minor.
Masuku said they had gone into Eldorado Park and other crime-ridden communities before and now they needed to act.
"It's important now that we look and check what progress we have made, so that will be our main focus going forward, so that all the recommendations, all the outcomes of all these engagements, what could have actually gone wrong and what is the progress."
The visibly pregnant mother of the victim faces a charge of failing to report a case of sexual assault.
