CAPE TOWN - The prosecution in the murder trial of a woman who was killed outside the Wynberg Magistrate's Court more than two years ago, said it would fight for its star witness to be granted immunity from prosecution.

Christine Gumira was shot and killed while leaving the courthouse in May 2023, and was about to turn State witness in a murder case she was linked to.

One of the men accused of her murder, Mandisi Mofu, was found guilty of the crime by the Western Cape High Court.

Mofu's accomplices, Lukhanyo Meme and Vuminkosi Vumene, were found guilty of helping him execute Gumira.

State witness Andile Nqalathi testified to being requested by Mpofu to drop him, Meme, and Vumane at the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on the day of the murder.

He also pointed out Mofu as the triggerman seen in the video that went viral on social media shortly after the shooting.

The court found his testimony to be credible but lawyers for the accused were not convinced.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said that Nqalathi was vital witness for them.

"And we believe that he has testified frankly and honestly and we will argue that he needs to be granted indemnity from prosecution."

Those arguments are scheduled for next week Monday during sentencing procedures.
