JOHANNESBURG - The family of an Uber driver who was killed in an attack outside Maponya Mall on Wednesday is frustrated that they have not heard from police investigators.

Zanele Khuzwayo is the aunt of 27-year-old Mthokozisi Mvelase, who was on duty when he was attacked.

During the incident, a second car was shot at, but the driver managed to flee before his car was torched.

Khuzwayo said she thinks her nephew’s attack may be related to a taxi feud that remains unconfirmed by investigators.

"They're telling us they don’t want to speculate, they will communicate with us, that’s all we're getting. The car was already in ashes when we came, so the first thing we did was go to the police station, hoping we were going to get and they said no, it’s still very new."

She said the family back in KZN is anxiously awaiting feedback.

"They are supposed to have firsthand information so that I can be able to go report back home here in Johannesburg."
