JOHANNESBURG - Midvaal Mayor Peter Teixeira said that the municipality should be used as a blueprint for transparent and effective governance in Gauteng.

The DA-run municipality continues to defy the province’s challenges after achieving an 11th consecutive clean audit for the 2023/2024 financial year earlier this year.

Teixeira took over office from former DA member, Bongani Baloyi, also hailed as the poster boy for good governance during his run as mayor between 2013 and 2021.

While he said he took a dim view of most Gauteng municipalities, he believes that Dada Morero’s Joburg was far worse.

Teixeira said that infrastructure master plans were part of why his municipality was on top of its service delivery game.

"I’ve got a water reservoir, I've got enough electricity, my roads are not riddled with potholes because of this infrastructure master plan and good planning where we plan ten years ahead and we ensure that, whether I’m here or not, the master plan continues and it outlives me."
