JOHANNESBURG - Search and recovery efforts for a missing pilot at Durban’s beachfront are continuing on Thursday, a week after the light aircraft crashed into the ocean during an airshow.
Private companies and recreational divers are assisting search and rescue teams who are looking for a 61-year-old pilot.
He was part of an air show and was in the middle of performing his final display when the small aircraft nosedived into the sea at Suncoast beach last Thursday.
"All wreckage recovered has been taken into the care of a metro police hangar at Virginia Airport for the accident and incident division and the police's ongoing investigation. Personal items have been returned to the family and arrangements are being made to return additional personal items recovered," said National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
