JOHANNESBURG - Corruption-accused Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo has assured the State that he will not interfere with witnesses if his bail conditions are relaxed.

Khumalo is currently appearing before the Pretoria Magistrate's Court, along with three of his co-accused.

They are seeking to have their bail conditions relaxed.

The accused face charges of corruption and fraud related to the appointment of 30-year-old Dineo Mokwele to an executive position within Crime Intelligence in April 2024, despite her having no policing capabilities, knowledge, or skills.

One of the bail conditions attached to Khumalo is that he is not allowed to visit any South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence offices.

Speaking through his lawyer, Abre Loubser, Khumalo said this condition was no longer necessary.

"The investigations in the matter have been finalised. We are not considered to be a flight risk. As most of the witnesses and prosecution are SAPS members, there is no fear of intimidation or influence of witnesses. The accused have not been disarmed of their firearms."
