JOHANNEBSURG - SA Steel Mills employees who have not been paid for more than seven months are picketing outside the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) offices in Sandton on Friday morning.
The company is in a business rescue process, and it has requested expressions of interest from potential buyers.
This is the second time the employees impacted by the almost year-long process are picketing at the IDC.
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), representing the 700 affected workers, will hand over a memorandum of demands to call for the IDC to intervene.
"The IDC is the shareholder at SA Steel Mills, and right now, SA Steel Mills is currently under business rescue. Our members are very frustrated because this business rescue process is taking very long and there seems to be no end in sight," said NUMSA’s spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi.
