Transnet is moving towards allowing private companies access to its system.

Twenty-five companies applied to use Transnet infrastructure to move minerals, 11 of which have been approved.

These companies will receive conditional award letters and be allocated slots across Transnet’s 41 routes.

Transnet currently moves 160 million tonnes of cargo, but requires private sector assistance to handle an additional 90 million tonnes.
