A light aircraft crash on Saturday morning south of Thembalethu, George.

CAPE TOWN - The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said an investigation is underway after a small aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing near George following a double engine failure.

The plane had been travelling from Vereeniging Airport to George Airport when it went down on Saturday morning.

Both the pilot and a passenger were taken to hospital.

CAA Spokesperson Sisa Majola said that the accident and incident investigations division will publish a report into the incident within 30 days.

“Preliminary information that is at our disposable indicates that there was a double engine failure that occurred on the aircraft approximately 15km from the airport with the aircraft crash landing at a nearby cemetery in the Thembalethu township.”
