JOHANNESBURG - Convicted killer and rapist, Thabo Bester, is heading to court to urgently interdict a Netflix documentary about him and his accomplice, disgraced doctor, Nandipha Magudumana.

The documentary, titled Beauty and the Bester, is set to air on the streaming platform on 12 September.

But Bester’s lawyers have released a statement confirming that they have been instructed to launch an urgent application in the high court.

The saga involving Bester and Magudumana gripped the country in April 2023, when the couple allegedly skipped the country after his brazen escape from the Mangaung Correctional Facility.

In a statement, Bester’s lawyers said they were heading to court on an urgent basis to interdict the screening or broadcast of Beauty and the Bester.

They insist the production makes serious, unfounded and defamatory submissions against him, and they also dispute the accuracy, fairness and legitimacy of its contents.

The lawyers claim Bester was not afforded the opportunity to respond to the allegations against him, labelling it character assassination under the guise of a documentary.

They want the matter to be heard urgently, as the documentary is set to air in less than a month.
