JOHANNESBURG - Minister of Justice Mamoloko Kubayi said she would be serving the department’s director-general, Doctor Mashabane, with an official letter informing him of the disciplinary action against him.
On Tuesday, Kubayi announced the intention to suspend Mashabane over the delays experienced by the police commission of inquiry.

The minister also announced the suspension of the deputy director for ICT, Jabulani Hlatshwayo.
On Tuesday, the commission, which is tasked with investigating allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal police boss Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, released a statement, blaming the Department of Justice for the delays.
Kubayi refused to reveal the reasons behind Mashabane’s upcoming suspension, saying that he had not formally been given a letter yet.
"I don't want to go into detail. I can't in public deal with labour matters in the manner that you want me. I cannot say these are the charges that he is going to face. So, I had to notify him that I have received a letter from the president that delegates me powers to take disciplinary action, following my report."
But she said Mashabane’s contract expires in 2026 and he had already been notified that it would not be renewed.
According to Kubayi, the procurement of the equipment required by the commission should be completed this week.
