The operation took place in the Claremont area, west of Durban, and the surrounding areas.
This comes just two days after two e-hailing drivers were assaulted and shot at, allegedly by taxi operators in the same community.
Durban’s metro police spokesperson, Colonel Boysie Zungu, said: "Yes, we can confirm that there is a route permit enforcement taking place in Clermont and surrounding. About 25 taxis were impounded for route permits."
Zungu said this is an ongoing operation.
"This kind of enforcement started in Central a few weeks ago."
