JOHANNESBURG - The R28 between Zenzele and Berkkersdale in Joburg’s West Rand is closed to traffic due to a protest action.
Gauteng traffic police have asked motorists to use alternative routes as they try to clear the blockage.
It's understood that employees from a local construction site are protesting over outstanding salary payments.
Department spokesperson Obed Sibasa said other law enforcement agencies are at the site monitoring the situation.
"One cannot drive or travel between Berkkersdale or Randfontein CBD. They have blocked the road with bricks as well as burning tires. The situation is under control, police monitoring."
