KZN - Another police officer in KwaZulu-Natal has been suspended pending an investigation into misconduct.

This time, a constable from Ntambanana Police Station in the King Cetshwayo District has been withdrawn from duty for alleged involvement in politics.

Provincial police say the member contravened Section 46 of the South African Police Service Act, which prohibits officers from participating in political activity.

The latest suspension comes just days after two other officers were temporarily relieved of their duties for using a police vehicle to transport a learner to a matric dance in Estcourt.

KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said the constable was seen wearing political party regalia and actively participating in political activities.

"Police officers are expected to be apolitical and neutral at all times. Any association with a political party by a police officer has the potential of bringing the name of the organisation into disrepute," Netshiunda said.

Police are also investigating allegations that the suspended member owns a VIP security company, which is also prohibited for serving officers.
