Former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe has resigned as a Member of Parliament representing the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, the MK Party announced that Molefe will now focus exclusively on his role as the organisation’s Treasurer General.

Molefe was appointed to the position of money man for the party last month.

This marks the second time Brian Molefe has resigned from Parliament. In 2017, he represented the African National Congress(ANC) in the National Assembly for approximately three months before resigning under a cloud of controversy.

His tenure for the MK Party was notably longer, having served as an MP for roughly one year and four months.

His resignation follows a similar move by another controversial former state-owned entity boss, Lucky Montana, who also recently resigned as an MP for the MK Party. Montana previously headed the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) during the presidency of current MK Party leader, Jacob Zuma.

Both Molefe and Montana were implicated in the State Capture Report; however, neither has been convicted of any allegations to date.
