JOHANNESBURG - Police in Brakpan are keeping a close eye on the situation at the Plastic City informal settlement after a shootout between illegal miners.
Law enforcement officials were sent to the area earlier on Thursday.
Some residents fled their homes after the incident.
Earlier, residents of Plastic City in Brakpan were woken up by series of gunshots.
Police were alerted and rushed to the scene.
They’ve confirmed no fatalities occurred as a result of the shooting.
It is believed those responsible are illegal miners who are fighting amongst each other.
Police said the illegal miners emerged from a nearby dump site and torched some shacks.
