His wife was the first on the scene and alleges that police officers intentionally killed him.
"I know for sure that he would not have shot at the police officers because he is not a killer, and the way I found him lying there shows that he was actually running away. It is painful because he is leaving children behind. He was all I had."
Buyisile Magwaza strongly believes that the police planned to kill her husband, Ayanda Manyu.
She said that in the early hours of Wednesday morning, they heard gunshots outside their home and shortly afterwards, Manyu left for work.
That’s when she said he was shot and killed.
Magwaza has questioned the police’s behaviour.
"They should have arrested him. I am sure that he didn’t shoot them because I know what his gun sounds like. I've went to the shooting range with him. Only high-calibre shots went off at the scene."
Police said that when officers arrived at the scene to arrest Manyu, they were shot at and then returned fire in self-defence.
Police watchdog IPID was on the scene and is also investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
