CAPE TOWN - Aspiring young cyclists in under-resourced communities will be the focus of a fundraising initiative set to take place at the V&A Waterfront.
The inaugural spinathon, Cycle for Change, will raise money for two cycling NGOs, one in Khayelitsha and another in Masiphumelele.
The goal is to raise R1.2 million for Velokhaya Cycling Academy and Songezo Cycling Academy.
Managing director of Johnson HealthTech South Africa, Zeyd Sulaiman, said: "The idea behind the event is to raise at least R1.2 million, which we will use to improve the infrastructure and donate spinning bikes to both of those academies. The reason why we've decided to support these academies is because we love the work that they're doing."
