City of Cape Town deploys 700 new metro cops to quash crime

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town has deployed 700 new metro police officers who will be spread across the city’s wards.
The city said the move is aimed at easing the burden on the South African Police Service (SAPS) by helping to tackle the high levels of crime affecting many communities. In addition to the new officers, Mfuleni will receive a dedicated police station to strengthen law enforcement in the area.

The Mitchells Plain Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson, Norman Janjes, said the newly deployed officers should work with SAPS officers and CPF members.
"The CPF is very happy to note the deployment of 700 extra law enforcement officers within our communities. So, immediately, we always spoke about having more, greater police visibility. So, this will definitely help to increase that visibility. There'll be more boots on the ground.”
