Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has announced Professor Brian Figaji as its new chancellor.
CPUT's council approved the appointment at its meeting earlier in September, before Figaji accepted the nomination.
The appointment has been effective since Sunday and will run for a period of four years.
Figaji is no stranger to the institution.
He served as the rector of Peninsula Technicon, one of the institutions that merged with Cape Technicon to form CPUT two decades ago.
CPUT spokesperson, Lauren Kansley, said the university of technology as privileged that Figaji accepted the nomination.
"CPUT is 20 years old this year and two decades ago, it was Professor Figaji himself who navigated the merger of the then-Peninsula Technicon and the Cape Technicon. It was a challenging process but laid the foundation for one of the country's most successful universities of technology."
Figaji takes over from Thandi Modise, the former chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, who was appointed in 2017.
