Taxi users who normally travel from Mfuleni to Somerset West are frustrated due to the shutdown of this route, following deadly attacks on taxi operators and commuters in recent weeks linked to a dispute between taxi associations, the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA), over these routes
Metrorail and Golden Arrow bus service have been roped in to provide extra capacity.
However, this commuter has told EWN that the route closure has created a challenge for many.
"The route that the bus is taking is very long and with the bus, it takes one and a half hours, while it's only 30 to 40 minutes with a taxi. Therefore, we are going to be late at our workplaces."
The shutdown will remain in effect for the next 30 days or until the warring taxi associations reach a peace agreement.
