Aubrey Tau, founder of TV channel Moja Love and Tau Foods, joins Motheo Khoaripe on The Money Show for an in-depth interview.
On this week's edition of Shapeshifter, The Money Show tracks the career journey of 'visionary' entrepreneur Aubrey Tau, the founder of entertainment channel Moja Love (DSTV Channel 157) and Tau Foods.
Growing up in the mining town of Carletonville in Gauteng, Tau's entrepreneurial bent surfaced early.
He tells Motheo Khoaripe how he started out selling snacks and sweets at school events, and also organised some entertainment events himself.
"I think that's how entrepreneurs learn, from when you are young. To become an entrepreneur only once you are in your thirties or forties is very difficult... you need to go through the struggle."

Tau also speaks about his desire to contribute something to the community and to create jobs, specifically with the creation of Moja Love.
"I'm not interested in popularity, I'm interested in creating jobs and making money - because you have to make money to be able to create jobs."

Talking to his interest in uplifting communities, Tau was also active in organising youth clubs at a young age.
After leaving school, it's apparent that it was this young man's outgoing personality and creative ideas which helped him connect with big names in the soccer world in Johannesburg.
These included Irvin Khoza and Jomo Sono, who helped him build his reputation and promote international projects.
Tau's career journey also got him to dip his toe into mining investment and eventually led him to TV and starting the popular Moja Love channel.
He highlights the fact that the entrepreneurial path is a difficult one in South Africa, citing in particular the years-long battle he had in getting a license from Icasa.
"Our government doesn't invest in the youth... so it's difficult for young people to start businesses and create jobs... I would say, don't get discouraged, but make that you've got funding, that you go and knock on the doors of those guys who are successful."

Entrepreneurs who have great ideas are welcome to knock on HIS door as well, Tau pledges.
