WC police seize 92 illegal firearms, arrest 92 suspects in one week

Western Cape police said they've arrested 92 suspects and confiscated the same number of guns in the past week, as the crackdown on illegal firearms and gang violence continues.
The cache includes handguns, homemade firearms, rifles, and semi-automatic weapons, with the majority seized in the Cape Metropole.

The police's Andre Traut said the search and seizure operations took place in Delft, Mfuleni, Muizenberg, Nyanga, Mitchells Plain and Swellendam.
"Each firearm recovered represents not only a disruption to criminal operations but also the prevention of potential bloodshed in vulnerable communities. This week alone, operations in Delft, Mfuleni, Muizenberg, Nyanga, Mitchells Plain and Swellendam led to the recovery of 19 firearms with several rounds of ammunition, underscoring SAPS’ focus on breaking the cycle of violence in areas hardest hit by gang rivalries and drug turf wars."
