The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is set to release the highly anticipated interim report into allegations of corruption, maladministration, and irregularities at the troubled Tembisa Hospital.
President Cyril Ramaphosa authorised the SIU to investigate corruption at the Tembisa Hospital in 2023 following the 2021 murder of whistleblower and chief accountant at the Gauteng health department, Babita Deokaran.
SIU head, Andy Mothibi, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi and Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi are among officials expected to lead a media briefing on Monday detailing the preliminary findings.
Already, more than 100 officials have been implicated across four syndicates at the Tembisa Hospital’s procurement and contracting processes.

The SIU confirmed in August that unlawful contracts had been cancelled and disciplinary measures taken.
The SIU also pledged to recover assets and refer criminal cases to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
The interim report is expected to shed more light on the scale of financial losses, systemic weaknesses in procurement, the role of implicated officials, and next steps for accountability.
