The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said isolated showers and thundershowers will continue until midweek in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
Today, Gauteng was also affected by severe rains; however, the Weather Service reports that no severe impacts have been recorded so far.
SAWS has issued Yellow Level 2 to 4 warnings for severe thunderstorms in the Free State, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, parts of Limpopo and the Eastern Cape. These conditions have resulted in excessive lightning, damaging winds and heavy downpours.
“For tomorrow, isolated showers and thundershowers will dominate the eastern parts, covering the Northwest, Gauteng, Free State, the eastern half of the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected in northern Limpopo, including Musina, where a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rainfall could lead to localized flooding. There is also a chance of rain over low-lying areas of Mpumalanga into the east coast of KwaZulu-Natal, with a 60% chance of showers into the afternoon. Hail is also possible in affected areas,” Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela said.
