Joburg City Power is hitting back at the Hawks after lodging an urgent application in the Gauteng High Court to have a recent search and seizure operation at its headquarters declared unlawful.
The Hawks executed a search warrant at the entity’s offices in Booysens last week as part of an ongoing investigation into a R64 million tender.
The contracts were for the supply of electricity transformers in 2023, but it’s understood they were never delivered.
In its court application, City Power claims the search warrant used during the operation was invalid.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said: "The interdict seeks to challenge the unlawful executions of the warrant and to preserve any material already seized by the Hawks until the courts are able to make a determination on this matter. It is important to highlight that City Power is not opposed to lawful investigation and in fact, we have expressed our willingness to fully cooperate with the investigation, and we’ve been doing so since December 2024."
