Taxi association CODETA said it's disappointed by the delays of its court application challenging the Western Cape Mobility Department’s taxi route closures.
This, after the matter was postponed for the third time by the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday.
Wednesday marks exactly two weeks since Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku implemented a 30-day shutdown of routes and specific lanes at taxi ranks in Mfuleni, Khayelitsha, and Somerset West.
CODETA has approached the court on an urgent basis, asking it to reverse this decision
Judge Josiah Dalamo has postponed CODETA's application until Saturday to give both parties more time to argue their cases.
CODETA's Edgar Mohale said the delays were causing them huge financial setbacks.
"Because there's about 36 taxis that are parked in Khayelitsha and they're not operating. There's another 40, I think, in Mfuleni also parked and not operating, and it's month-end now - they need to be paid."
Mohale said they still don't understand why the routes were closed.
He added that they'd been operating there for three weeks before the shutdown without violence.
