SANParks has urged the public to avoid the area between Tafelberg Road and Deer Park, where firefighters are still busy with mopping up operations.
Fire crews battled temperamental winds, blistering conditions and a rapidly moving fire line last night to protect homes at the foot of Table Mountain.
SANParks spokesperson Charles Phahlane said the fire has been contained, but firefighters are still attending to remaining embers.
"Our crew will be on the ground just extinguishing some of the embers that we have here. There's a sense that we might have rain later today, which will assist us if it does come through, but we will have a crew to monitor this fire overnight."

The city's fire and rescue services spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, has pleaded with the public to be cautious as the fire season approaches.
"It is a timely reminder to the public of how easily wildfires can start, and as we head into the warmer months, we appeal to everyone to do their bit for fire safety, whether vegetation or structural."
