More neighbourhoods are enlisting the help of owls to deal with their rodent problem.

With the help of Eco Solutions, this sustainable pest control method protects both wildlife and the community.

The conservation company in Johannesburg recently won the 2025 Owl Award, celebrating over 20 years of poison-free rodent control.

“We are working with nature, rather than against it,” says Eco Solutions' operations manager, Cayla Brown.

They have installed and maintained hundreds of nesting boxes nationwide, with more than 160 in Gauteng.

“You’ve seen all those horrible stories of kids who get into poisons, it really is terrible. Through doing this, we completely eliminate that need for poisons.”

Cayla Brown, Ops Manager at Eco Solutions, speaks with Mo Flava.
