The KwaZulu-Natal transport department estimates that between 2 and 3 million rands in revenue is lost every month through illegal trucking operations transporting undeclared and unverified goods.
In the latest breakthrough under the ongoing Nenzani la Ezweni Operation, the Road Traffic Inspectorate has impounded 14 abnormal load vehicles and detained seven foreign truck drivers for violations of the National Road Traffic Act and immigration laws.
Preliminary findings reveal that four of the seven drivers are undocumented and have been detained while the documents of the remaining three are under verification.
Spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya: "The MEC Sboniso Duma has commended the RTI team for uncovering what could have been the biggest ever racket involving the transportation of undeclared and unverified goods by undocumented foreign nationals."
