Gauteng MEC to detail matric readiness and 2026 school placement plan

Gauteng’s Education Department is set to hold a media briefing on Sunday ahead of the Class of 2025 final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.
Education MEC Matome Chiloane is expected to provide an overview of his department’s state of readiness for the upcoming NSC examinations, which are scheduled to begin on October 21st.
The MEC will also provide crucial details on the 2026 online admissions for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners, with placement offers expected to begin next Thursday.
The department said it is all systems go for both the placement process and the final Grade 12 exam preparations.
Spokesperson Steve Mabona confirmed the timeline for the placement process, stating: “The placement period will officially begin on Thursday, the 16th of October 2025; that is when placement offers will be sent to parents and guardians who completed their applications.”
Mabona added that the MEC will also provide an update on the province's readiness for the upcoming 2025 National Senior Certificate exams.
