Cape Town firefighters proved their worth when they took gold at this year's Toughest Firefighter Alive competition, held in George over the weekend.
The competition is an opportunity to showcase firefighters' mental and physical fitness while emulating challenging real-life firefighting scenarios.
Baigum Abrahams retained her title for the Toughest Female Firefighter Alive for the third year in a row, sharing the top spot with her colleague Thobeka Senatse.
MMC for Safety and Security, JP Smith, noted that more than 250 firefighters from various countries, including Botswana and Namibia, took part.
"Our firefighters do us proud every day, and their achievements at the competition just cement what we already know: they are some of the toughest, bravest, and most dedicated women and men in the country," Smith said.
"Congratulations to the team who walked away with an impressive haul of 24 medals which included: 13 gold, 10 silver, and a bronze medal."
