The Lifecycle of a CEO, co-authored by Bob Stark is about the defining stages that shapes a chief executive’s journey, from stepping into the top job and building credibility, to navigating crises, driving transformation, and ultimately planning succession.
The books takes a deep dive into the various types of leaders that run businesses. Why some CEOs spark remarkable innovation and growth while others stumble, from the clueless newcomer and the heroic turnaround artist to the ruthless villain bent on profit at any cost.
Speaking to Stephen Grootes on The Money Show, Stark's explores how leadership evolves over time, what separates successful CEOs from the rest, and the common pitfalls that can derail even the most seasoned leaders.
"Part of what our research shows is that it's less about personality or other particular qualities and skills, and it's more about the ability to evolve with the role," says Stark.
Stark says the fundamental attribute of a successful CEO is the necessity to evolve in the job during the various stages of the career.
"It's all about recognising the circumstances that you're in, and adapting to those. That is really the number 1 job of a CEO," adds Stark.
