The City of Cape Town says it will no longer provide designated firework sites for events like Diwali, Guy Fawkes, or New Year's Eve.
Its message comes as the Hindu Festival of Lights is just a week away.
The metro added that the sale and use of sky lanterns were prohibited as they posed a high fire risk.
MMC for Safety and Security, JP Smith, stated that law enforcement officers will begin to clamp down on the sale, storage, and use of fireworks without proper documentation.
"Fireworks are not only very noisy, but they cause immense trauma to animals and communities that already battle with gun violence. Then there is the risk of fires and injuries, placing an unnecessary burden on emergency services. I want to encourage our residents to make sure children understand the danger and repercussions of setting off fireworks."
