Baigum Abrahams, a Cape Town firefighter, took the honours for a third year in a row at the Southern African Toughest Female Firefighter competition over the weekend.

The winner of the Southern African Toughest Female Firefighter competition is encouraging aspiring firefighters to visit their local fire station and job shadow.  

Baigum Abrahams, a Cape Town firefighter, took the honours for a third year in a row at the contest over the weekend.

Her son cheered her on while she moved through the obstacle course, which she said simulates real life firefighting scenarios.

She said she’s grateful he was able to see what it takes to be a firefighter.

"It was a good thing for him to see, you know, like, for him not only to be proud of his mom, but for him to also see that he's part of that and that, you know, nothing is impossible, I think. And also, just as a note to also myself, even when everybody competes, it's not about who's the fastest or who's the best, it's just about doing your best."
