SAFA’s administrative blunder will not be swept under the carpet – Minister Gayton McKenzie

While South Africans continue to sing Bafana Bafana’s praises, Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie says the South African Football Association’s (SAFA) administrative blunder will not go unchecked.

The team qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup this week after securing a 3-0 win over Rwanda and Nigeria’s subsequent 4-0 win over Benin.

The latter end of their qualification campaign was hit with tremendous pressure following a three-point deduction by FIFA.

Bafana Bafana were found to have fielded an ineligible player during a previous qualification match against Lesotho.

Speaking on Marawa Sports Worldwide with Robert Marawa, McKenzie says that while the World Cup qualification is secured, an investigation into the matter will begin.

“Under my ministry, in my room, this matter will not be swept under the carpet. We must investigate this matter, and whoever is responsible must face the full might of the law.”

He adds, “If we don’t take action, what lessons would we have learned from what has happened? You must understand what was at stake here.”
