Makhaza police registered a case of attempted murder, public violence and malicious damage to property.
The police officers managed to escape the burning vehicle with no injuries.
Marais said the province was already severely under-resourced when it comes to policing and could not afford to lose essential equipment that play a vital role in ensuring public order and protecting officers and residents in high-risk areas.
"This brazen attack on police officers and the deliberate destruction of critical policing resources is a slap in the face of communities who have been urgently calling for more policing resources in the province."
