Most of the blaze has been contained but firefighters will remain in the area to deal with flare ups.

The wind has subsided, bringing relief to firefighting efforts in the deep south.

The blaze started along the Glencairn Expressway and was fanned across the Roodeberg Mountain in the Jonkersdam area of Table Mountain National Park, towards Kommetjie.

Emergency services were beefed up on Thursday night to prevent the flames from reaching homes in the Capri area, near Ocean View.

Large flames can still be seen burning along isolated sections on the mountain and at the end of the Roodeberg Mountain ridge in the direction of Ocean View.

No damage to property has been reported and no evacuations were necessary.

"The efforts will continue today with bringing in a helicopter as well as a spotter plane to enhance the firefighting effort,” said Table Mountain National Park spokesperson Megan Taplin.

Taplin said drones will also be used to make sure hotspot areas are identified.
