KwaZulu-Natal traffic authorities are monitoring roads closely after a number of accidents were reported on Sunday.
The province is experiencing severe rainfall, which is expected to continue until Monday.
The South African Weather Service has warned that the downpour will be accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
Following a major accident involving a truck carrying motor vehicles on the N3 highway in Durban, the provincial transport department said that response teams had been deployed to keep roads safe.
Ndabezinhle Sibiya speaks for transport MEC Siboniso Duma: "We have ensured that our highly and dedicated team from Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) is working flat out along the major routes, working with traffic departments in various municipalities to ensure the safety of motorists."
