Some members of the Zulu royal family say they will not be part of the unity meeting called by King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.
Following the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) judgment, which ruled that King Misuzulu’s official recognition by government was legitimate, he called all sides of the royal family to a meeting.
Speaking at a media briefing in Durban on Sunday afternoon, those opposed to King Misuzulu’s leadership said they will not attend.
Last week, the SCA overturned a Pretoria High Court judgment that had set aside King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s official recognition under the Traditional Leadership and Khoi-San Act, effectively affirming the legitimacy of his ascension to the throne. @_NMabaso

When noting the SCA judgment last week, Zulu monarch, King Misuzulu, said this was not a time for celebration.
Instead, he stressed the need to strengthen unity within the royal family, as divisions over the succession battle continue.
Though his letter was directed to all family members, the royal palaces, and residents, those backing Prince Simakade say they only learnt of the meeting through social media and received no formal invitation.
Prince Thokozani Zulu explained: "Particularly his majesty, Zondamagwala [Simakade], has not been invited. Now we understand that there are two main actors in these developments. Now how then do you not invite Zonadamagwala? When you are sincere, when you really mean that there must be peace and so-called unity?"
The meeting is expected to take place at the king’s eMashobeni royal palace in oPhongola on 29 October 2025.
