KZN cop accused of murdering constable expected in court

The KwaZulu-Natal police officer accused of murdering Crime Intelligence official Constable Sbonelo Ngidi is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrates Court on Monday.
Ngidi was shot and killed last week in what authorities believe was a case of road rage.

The Hawks later identified the suspect as a member of the Escombe Rapid Rail Police Unit.
After the fatal shooting of Ngidi, the suspect fled the sceneand managed to avoid arrest, even after the Hawks tried to track him down at his workplace.
According to police, the shooting followed a confrontation over right of way, with the officer allegedly threatening to shoot Ngidi moments before opening fire.
Meanwhile, family spokesperson Siya Ngidi said they are now calling for justice.
“Constable Ngidi was a humble person to us, as the family, and also in the community. Even at work, he was a good person. So, now we want justice in this matter.”
Investigators are still probing whether the firearm used was a state-issued weapon.
