Cape Town taxi association CODETA says a temporary arrangement has been tabled to try and resolve operating disputes with rival association, CATA, in the Helderberg region.
The two taxi associations are at odds over who has the right to operate and how to operate on taxi routes between Khayelitsha, Mfuleni, and the Somerset West area.
Several deadly shootings allegedly linked to this dispute were reported in recent months, which led to a 30-day court-ordered shutdown of certain routes on this corridor.
CODETA spokesperson Makhosandile Tumana said they're happy to have their taxis back on the road after routes were opened again on Friday.
Tumana said that CODETA was ready to work with CATA in finding a long-lasting solution to their issues in Somerset West.
"We held a very robust meeting yesterday and we have managed to reach an agreement, although our fellow brothers from CATA region have not signed. But we hope that they will go to their constituency and discuss this matter and come back to sign the memorandum of agreement."
