Pick n Pay’s 'Feed the Nation' serves 45 million meals in five years

Pick n Pay’s Feed the Nation initiative has taken putting food on the table of Mzansi’s households a step further.
Born out of the 2020 pandemic, the initiative mobilised Pick n Pay staff, its suppliers, customers, and partners to deliver much-needed relief to vulnerable communities.
Five years later, it has distributed more than R215 million worth of food, providing over 45 million meals to individuals and families across the country.
“It’s an extraordinary call to action, we are just privileged to be in the middle... to be able to marshall these resources,” says Pick n Pay CEO Sean Summers.
The initiative has focused on supporting child-headed households and assisted nearly 600 schools nationwide, distributing over 272,000 hampers.
“Children are our future… hungry children can’t concentrate, they can’t go to school, can’t grow, and can’t be the future,” says Summers.
“We live in this extraordinary country with the most beautiful people in the world… it is our job as the leaders to give them faith and hope for the future.”
