"People forget that Black Coffee has been around for a long time, close to 25 years. Back in the 1990s, when DJing wasn’t as profitable as it is now, he had already started. He went solo around 2003, and by 2010, he was already one of the most internationally booked DJs," said Nhlapo.
Nhlapo added that his global reach expanded further with his Ibiza residency, which began around 2015.
"He also got a residency in Spain in Ibiza that was around 2015, so he's been doing that for 10 years, and he's earning in foreign currency. Jobs like that can earn you up to $50,000 a night, which is almost R1 million a night. So, it really is beyond what many of us can imagine or comprehend the amount of income he is making just from DJ'ing."
Beyond his music, the Grammy Award winner has also made smart business decisions.
"It's a combination of talent, which is the music, but also a very strong head when it comes to business.
"He has his own music rights; he's collaborated with artists, which is far more lucrative than performing on your own. He's basically built a global brand. Both with his music but also in his business interests, he has investments. I believe he is into tech and he has start-ups. I believe he has some real estate as well, and he has invested in film and media."
Together, Black Coffee’s artistry, business sense, and strategic investments have solidified his status as one of South Africa’s most successful entertainers.
