Details of how a man wanted in connection with the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart has evaded arrest have been presented before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

This, as the investigating officer in the Swart case, Witness B, testifies before the commission on Thursday.

She revealed how Lucky Molefe, the nephew of controversial figure, Katiso "KT" Molefe, has been on the run since 6 December when police intended to arrest him.

At the time, Lucky was an employee of Transnet Freight Rail.

An internal probe found that Lucky crooked the books to allow a company, the SK Group, to win a tender from Transnet.

Swart’s company, Q-Tech, blew the whistle on the tender fraud, whereby the SK Group heavily inflated prices on products sold to Transnet.

Witness B claims there is a voicenote that police intercepted from a member of the Big Five cartel, claiming he would protect Lucky.

"There was messages from the members of the Big Five that said: 'We are willing to take the boy under our wing to make sure the police don’t get hold of him.'"
