The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng won’t be apologising to political parties or anyone to gain support for its motion of no confidence in Premier Panyaza Lesufi.
According to the DA, Lesufi must be removed from the top post following a damning Public Protector report that found the provincial government established the Gauteng crime prevention wardens with no legal mandate.
The DA has struggled to gather support for its motion with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) demanding the party apologises for previous negative characterisations before engaging in talks.
ActionSA has also asked the da to apologise to the people of Gauteng for voting in Lesufi as premier back when it believed it would enter a coalition with the African National Congress (ANC) in the province.
Speaking at a media briefing in Johannesburg on Tuesday, one of the DA’s senior leaders in Gauteng – Jack Bloom – said apologies are not on the table.
“We’re not apologising to any other party. They must consider the motion on its merits, if they fill that Premier Panyaza Lesufi displayed flagrant illegalities, incompetence and corruption – deserves their support, then they must vote against it and if they think he needs to be removed they must vote for it, it’s as simple as that.”
