The African National Congress (ANC) said the newly formed provincial task team in the Western Cape will hit the ground running in a bid to claw back voter support.
The party reshuffled its provincial executive committee in the Western Cape on Wednesday, replacing it with a task team.
This is the third province to be reconfigured following a poor electoral showing in 2024’s general elections.
The ANC remains on the opposition benches in the Western Cape after losing power to the Democratic Alliance (DA) in 2009.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula addressed the media in Cape Town on Wednesday, after meeting with the provincial structure.
"It’s not to theorise about what you’re about to do or what you will look like after the reconfiguration. It’s how you execute the task assigned to you by the national executive committee. So, we have reinforced the leadership here."
Former ambassador to the United States (US), Ebrahim Rasool, is set to lead as convenor, making a comeback to the provincial structure after he was unseated as chairperson in 2005.
Mbalula said Rasool would be supported by more than 80 other members on the task team.
"We’ve deployed them in certain tasks, and the key question for the next three months is how this leadership is going to respond to the tasks we have given to them."
