A man accused of killing a Walter Sisulu University student and injuring another is expected to return to the Mthatha Magistrates Court for pre-trial on Thursday.
Manelisi Mampane allegedly shot Sisonke Mbolekwa on campus earlier this year.
While Mbolekwa died, another student, Sethu Ndamase, was critically injured.
Mampane allegedly opened fire during a student protest over poor living conditions at the Eastern Cape institution.
Mampane, a former residence manager at the Walter Sisulu University, pleaded not guilty to murder during his previous court appearance.
But he did not dispute opening fire with a gun that did not belong to him when the students were protesting on campus.
Mampane accused the students of setting a car on fire near a residence where he lived.
EWN understands that his appearance also comes after he withdrew his testimony at the Jafta Commission probing the violence at the institution and the circumstances that led to the unrest.
